THE MAPLES
Situated on a ridge overlooking the Hudson, this 800 s.f. modern addition to a classical Victorian acts as both a solar shield and a landscape folly. The continuous metal roof and wall system defines the spatial extent of the new volume; while the tall vertical void acts as a link between the quaint scale of the existing structure and the heroic scale of the Hudson River Valley. The vertical and curving metal roof-wall frames views of the river and mountains; while providing shading to the south and west during the summer months. The curved roof-wall is expressed in the Master Bedroom ceiling to create both intimacy and evoke a larger scale.
Materials include: Standing seam metal roofing and siding over a rain screen for low maintenance; cedar siding with flush Versateck panels; tongue and groove cedar soffits, double glazed low-e doors and windows; and ipe decking.
