Situated on the Hudson River, this 800 s.f. weekend studio responds to the stunning views of the Catskill mountains, the proximity of a sibling’s residence, as well as the minimalist living requirements of the client. The main living volume is wrapped by a porch that frames a mountain view, encourages outdoor living and beckons to the sibling’s house. A service bar, integrating the bedroom, bathrooms and a loft, has been designed to resemble a boat, maximizing efficiency and minimizing square footage. Facing the road, the service bar with carefully located windows, encourages privacy and orients the house towards the ridge and river. A large overhanging roof protects against the interior living spaces from the western sun. Windows and doors are strategically placed to optimize cross ventilation and frame views.

Materials include: Full height Superior wall basement, Hardi panel siding boards with cedar strips, Pella doors and windows, Galvalume standing seam roofing and wood floors.
